Yeah, I stole the entry title from a thread over at the iStock-forums. Why? Because it's a good one. :)
Sometimes, the story of a photo is as good as the photo itself. Sometimes, the story is even better. This photo, on the other hand, comes with a rather funny story. Well, at least for me.
It happened when I was on a road trip with a friend. We stayed at a famous medieval town in south western germany, did all the sightseeing, and finally went up to the castle towering the scenery. Sat down at the restaurant, ordered some wine and some food. When the waitress arrived with the wine, we toasted each other - and I said "Wow, I can see the lake and the sky in your glass!" - He turned towards the lake with his glass and said: "You're right - I've got to capture this!" - took out his camera and started to click - wine glass in one hand, camera in the other hand. After every click, you could hear something like "...no, that wasn't quite right... I'll try another angle..."
This went on for a while, until I got really bored and started to take photos of him photographing his wine glass. You know, just for fun, taking some "It's too funny how he squeezes one eye shut and stretches his arm all the way out with the camera"-shots. Those are really hilarious, but I am not allowed to show them online... too bad...
Anyway, more casually than anything else, I finally zoomed in on the hand and the glass and took this photo. Just one. And after reviewing the whole series from both cameras, we agreed that this is the best shot of all of them. Isn't it strange how sometimes all serious effort is less successfull than one casual try?
I simply adore this story. ANd yes, when the casual try turns out to be a gem, it makes it that muchmore precious. Great shot too!

Thanks :) - I really liked your hiking story, btw (probably should have said that in your comments... not here... I'll do that when I find the time to read the 2nd part).
