Ear to the Ground

When the bell rang, you did not dare to open the door. You ran up the stairs to hide in the attic. And you were right. So right. The ringing stopped, but then, there were other sounds. Cracking, crashing. Your house does not have a front door any more.

Through the floor, you can easily follow the progress of the invaders. Hall, splintering glass. the mirror. Living room. You used to have a stereo and a tv, until about five minutes ago. Kitchen. Better eat pizza for the rest of the year - it doesn't need plates.

The stairs. Creaking. You knew you should not have kissed the daughter of your boss, didn't you? Especially as she had been promised to his best friend's son. Shouldn't have started working in that casino in the first place. Shouldn't have... if only... that creaking sound - is it the latch of the attic door already?

Silly me

I should have known creativity cannot be scheduled. Writing can be scheduled; but creativity cannot. Well, I'm not giving up the idea. Just the tight schedule.

Although, while searching for inspiration in the iStock library, I found an image and instantly fell in love with it. But I can't write the story. I think it is just too good for words. Here it is.

Dark Moments (photo fiction #1)

One of those moments in life when the walls keep getting closer. No room left to breathe. Closing your eyes used to help, but that was long ago. Now, when you close your eyes, you only see a face. A face that isn't yours to touch anymore. Better keep those eyes open. Stare into the light until the light feels dark. Better not recall the moments you miss. But you do. Every day, when dusk sets in, you do.

No I didn't...

... do better than posting once every two months. But I've got an idea now what to do with this blog: Story of a picture. Not like what I tried a while ago, telling the story behind a picture - but taking one of those marvelous pictures that magically appear on iStock every day and tell the story it makes me think of. I'll start right away, and to make it more challenging, I'll commit myself to 3 stories a week. Let's see...
